Opportunities and activities highlights
Earth and Environmental Fieldwork
Earth and Environmental Science classes visited the Blue Mountains as part of their study of the Earth’s resources and Plate Tectonics. This excursion directly supports the Stage 6 syllabus, allowing students to explore first-hand the geological formations, sedimentary layering and uplifted plateaus that illustrate the dynamic processes shaping our planet. Students investigated how natural resources are formed and managed, linking classroom learning in Modules 1 and 2 to real-world examples in the field.
Creative and Performing Arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
What a spectacular night at our CAPA Showcase! Our talented students lit up the stage with stunning dance, powerful music, and captivating drama performances. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support our young artists—their hard work and creativity truly shined! We couldn't be prouder of the amazing talent in our school community.
Trips and Excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
Students in our red class were given the opportunity to visit the Cenotaph in Martin Place & the War Memorial Hyde Park. They learnt about the local Oatley history in relation to ANZAC day & they were able to get up close & personal with actual war artefacts.
Aboriginal Heritage
This week our Aboriginal Studies class visited Barangaroo and The Rocks!
They went on an Aboriginal led tour of Sydney Harbour and learnt about the importance of the land to Aboriginal heritage and its significance to the clans of the Eora Nation.
The tours extended throughout the six-hectare headland of Barangaroo Reserve, taking in the 75,000 native Australian trees and shrubs that are a feature of the Reserve.
They then visited The Rocks with Aunty Margaret to share in the rich interactive seasonal culture that's deeply embedded in the songlines on the land.
Clean Up Australia day
Last Friday, more than 60 students from GRC Oatley stayed back after school to participate in Clean Up Australia Day. Donning gloves, they enthusiastically tackled the task of picking up rubbish, enhancing the beauty of our already gorgeous school.
Supporting Our Community
We did it - 150 backpacks
This year our Community of Schools joined forces to collect items for Georges River Life Care. This will ensure that all young people in our area begin the new school year with everything they need to succeed. Thank you to all parents and students who donated to this worthy cause.
HPGE Study Days
Year 12 English Extension 2 students participated in an English Teachers Association study day at the University of Sydney. They met acclaimed writers, including Anna Funder, who gave great advice to help start their Major Works.
Geography Fieldwork
TYear 12 Geography students visited Pyrmont, Sydney, to investigate the Urban Dynamics shaping the culture and liveability of this historic suburb. This excursion aligns with the Stage 6 Geography syllabus, particularly Urban Places and Fieldwork Skills, allowing students to apply classroom concepts to real-world contexts. Through sketching, interviewing, observing and analysing, students developed practical fieldwork skills while examining how urban development, land use and community activities influence the character and functionality of Pyrmont.
Connection to Land
This week our Year 11 Aboriginal Studies class visited Barangaroo and The Rocks.
They went on two Aboriginal led tours of the area and learned about the land; its significance to the Eora nation and its history.
