Transition to senior school
At Georges River College Oatley Senior Campus, we are committed to making the transition from middle school to senior school clear, informative and supportive. Research shows that well-planned transition programs positively impact a young person’s engagement with school, wellbeing and ongoing learning. Our goal is to provide multiple opportunities for both students and parents to visit the campus over a six-month period and explore the experiences available at GRC Oatley Senior Campus.
We welcome enrolments from our middle campuses as well as from other independent and public schools.
During Term 2, Year 10 students can participate in a range of activities designed to help them make informed decisions about the subjects they wish to study in Years 11 and 12. These include:
1. Subject Information Day
Staff provide advice on course content, assessment, resource requirements, time considerations and the attributes needed to succeed in each subject. Students gain a clear understanding of what each course involves to make confident choices.
2. Course Taster Classes
Taster classes allow students to explore a variety of subjects offered at the Senior Campus. This hands-on experience helps students learn more about their options and take ownership of their senior education.
3. Subject Information Night
Parents and students are invited to an evening session on campus where staff provide guidance on NESA requirements for the Higher School Certificate and assist with subject selection for Stage 6.
4. Curriculum Expo
The Curriculum Expo provides detailed information about all Stage 6 courses. Parents and students can tour the campus, ask questions about course content, skills, and major works, and gain a deeper understanding of the learning opportunities available.
Providing consistent and accurate information is essential. Students need to select courses they enjoy, can succeed in and that will enable them to achieve the qualifications they aspire to.
